I have a 8-month old PB 17" 1.5ghx. I bought it from MacConnection and had them install another 512mg of RAM to a total of 1gb. (it was free)

The PB "died" last week and I had a local shop recover all my data to my external HD and send the PB to Apple. It has now come back from Apple (I am really impressed with the speed!) and they replaced the logic board, and took out the upgraded RAM. I am going to pick up the hopefully now happy PB tomorrow.

I will now have a baggy with some bad RAM and a bill for $260 for the repair shop's time moving my data over and sending to Apple. The local guy said that he recognizes the bad ram and says that it is gaurunteed for life and that I should send it back to MacConnection and get a user-installed replacement.

But do any of you think i can get my $260 covered by Apple or MacConnection??? I seem to think Apple is not respsonsible for data loss/recovery. Plus, I only had the data transfered because the local guy thought the HD was at fault and Apple would have to replace it/reformat it etc.

You'd have a much better chance of getting the money from MacConnection than from Apple, as it's not their fualt at all. However MC seems to be atleast partially to blame... I would talk to them and see what you can do... Maybe they will give you store credit... or give you a 1gb stick back for your fualty 512mb stick.

I have a 15" PB that is less than 3 months old. I bought 2GB of RAM from Coast-to-Coast Memory. In the last few weeks, I've developed sporadic problems that seem to be a failing logic board. It's being sent off to Apple Monday.

What makes me think its the RAM that started it is that Apple Hardware Test flagged the memory as bad once I started having problems. Subsequent tests failed to flag it a second time, but the fact that it did once leaves me wondering......

I am going to contact MacConnection asap. Kudos to Apple for their speed. It was overnighted on Tuesday afternoon, and back on Friday! They also replaced two of those little rubber feet that had come off-without me asking!

I will ask about at least an upgraded amount of RAM. I have bought mac stuff from them before and have been very happy with their people and speed.
