Alright. I've seen alot of laptop screens with key shapes pressed into them and it looks so awful. I just got my MacBook, so lately I've been using the screen protector that was in it to begin with. I'm noticing that I can't stand always removing it and putting it back in place whenever I close or open my MacBook, and this probably wouldn't change even if I got a proper microfiber screen protector.

I'd like to know what you guys think about not having a screen protector. Any bad stories to report? Or is a screen protector just for the paranoid?

After a year or two with my 14" iBook G4, I got fairly prominent key marks on the screen. I didn't carry it around very often either, and when I did it was in a padded laptop bag. I can definitely see the irritation of having to mess with the protector all the time, but I'd recommend it if you want to keep that screen in perfect condition.

I haven't had a problem with it since the TiBook. I say, only use a screen protector if you are near a Wii

Hahaha! That link is awesome!

Do you really think the glossy screens are as soft as the matte though? I haven't been able to bring myself to pressing on it to find out. Seems like glossy would equal harder.

AFAIK it's basically a chemical coating, not a different type of glass or something.

I've had a bunch of *Books and managed to dent the screen of most of them by not using a protector. Lesson learned: use a protector, even a piece of paper.

It used to be better, my 3400c didn't suffer from this, but the Pismo was pretty bad and this G4 is showing considerably markings already, after 2 years of obviously too infrequent procecting.

I use a soft Paper towel on my MacBook Pro because i can't see spending $15 to 20 for a microfiber cloth cut to fit the MBP.

No marks so far!
