Hello guys!

Here is my Panic.log:

As you can see it is the FireWire module that's causing the crash. It doesn't panic all the time, but I never get to have an uptime of over a couple days as this forces me to turn it off and back on.

Very annoying. I'm hoping Tiger fixes this...but any ideas?

Thanks!

Mike

are you "ejecting" drive before unplugging?

Always

For the LaCie I manually eject (Command+E or drag droping to the trash) and iTunes automatically unmounts iPod after sync (doesn't stay in HDD mode 24/7)...

I'm wondering if it is my OS X which is a little old now, installed sometime in November 2004 ...(v10.3.7)

Try installing the 10.3.8 combo update (the ~100MB one; not the incremental update). See if that helps.

Hrm, I'll probably leave it as I'm flying to Geneva in three weeks, then staying there for a month and back for two months tops - then the G5 goes into storage when I go home for the Summer.

Might give it a try sometime tho.

Thanks,

Mike

This log is citing a problem with the Firewire IO kext. Assuming this happens to you consistently, you could easily narrow this down by taking the drive to a different Mac to see if the problem is reproducible elsewhere. Test multiple times; if it does not occur on a different Mac, then you can be reasonably certain that your Firewire kext is damaged. It could also be your Firewire port, but don't jump to that conclusion yet.
