Apple just released Final Cut Express 3.5, with quite a few notable upgrades. Its not just a software update jobbie, but a disc upgrade costing $99 for existing owners. It is of course a universal binary, and more info here:

Keyframeable effects added. So it looks like a pretty good upgrade.

Soundtrack 1.5 has a new customizable UI

LiveType 2.0 should be faster as it now supports vector fonts. Scalable and smaller in size.

I'm sure there are more fixes that aren't mentioned but it certainly looks like a solid upgrade.
