Can you record TV with apple TV?
This would really set it apart from xbox 360 as an option.
Also Divx support would be mad.

Apple TV can only transfer media files from iTunes to itself and play via TV. Wireless 802.11 is built-in.

There's no video input, so how could it record anything?

As for DivX, submit feedback to Apple about adding official DivX support to Quicktime (and therefore Apple TV and iTunes by extension). The company routinely claims that it doesn't add support because its customers don't ask for it... well, ask for it!

Some people may be mistaken, but Apple TV is not a TV tuner or DVR. It is a transition box to get media from one or more computers to play on your TV via the Apple TV box.

I think it's more of the fact that Apple is using h.264 which the Apple TV has no problem decoding, and the fact that there are many ways to get your own media (DVDs and iMovies for example) onto your computer in h.264.
I don't think Apple sees a reason as to why there is a need for Divx when h.264 does a great job. Something tells me that "Because movies are uploaded to torrent sites as Divx" isn't a good enough reason. In that case I think it'd be easier to get "them" to start uploading movies in h.264 format

Bingo. I honestly see little legit Divx material, with the exception of short video clips on sites like collegehumor.com, etc.
