Google Nexus Q = Google TV?
You understand that the Nexus Q currently supports only Google Play Music; Google Play Movies and TV; and YouTube, and that your use of those services is subject to the Google Play Terms of Service.
The Nexus Q has built-in Wi-Fi and a built-in ethernet controller. You are solely responsible for obtaining internet connectivity through an internet service provider as the Nexus Q does not support mobile connectivity.
In order to use the Nexus Q, you understand that you will need your own: (i) phone or tablet running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) or higher with access to Google Play; (ii) compatible speakers, AV system or HD TV; and (iii) 802.11a/b/g/n access point Wi-Fi router.
It seems odd you'd need a separate Android device to use the Nexus Q. We'll find out the details in about 3 hours I guess.

Google Nexus Q brings media streaming to the home for $299 - SlashGear
The Nexus Q streams music, video, and YouTube from Google’s various content services. In addition, it allows users to create their own social playlists to send to the streamer and to share amongst friends. Not only that, but the device serves as a 25-watt amplifier, so you can plug in your own speakers and get some improved audio from the black orb.
The device is running Ice Cream Sandwich, and comes with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. WiFI b/g/n, Bluetooth, and NFC are all onboard, and it can be controlled via a capactive touch sensor found on the front. You’ll need an Android phone or tablet connected to the same WiFI network as the Nexus Q to control everything, and it’ll set you back $299.
Uh, no thanks.

I'm confused. How is this better than the AppleTV, for 3 times the cost? Surely it can't be the 25-watt amplifier....

Google needs to realize that people buy their products because they're cheap not because they're good.

Judging from the response around the internet, the Nexus Q seems to have hit with a resounding splat.
I'll be surprised if they sell 10,000 of them.

This thing reminds me of the PlayBook. It requires a 2nd high dollar device from the same company to make it work, and it's way overpriced what it does... which is less than the competition for a higher price... so everyone thinks it's moronic, cuz it is.

How could they be so far off the mark with this? A product like this has to get the greenlight to continue from the drawing board all the way through production from, what, 20-30-50 different people/teams/departments? Maybe more? How does something like this get through that many "brilliant" people and make it to market? Releasing something like this as some sort of "special edition" product is one thing, but making this your flagship product in that particular product line...SMH.

Aside from the crazy price, I don't see anything particularly wrong with this product.

It has a form factor which isn't meant to integrate with anything.

My guess is that this was a top down thing. Larry or somebody thought it was a good idea. The product is weird though, it doesn't even allow you to stream media, or at least it's not intended to stream files from your computer. It relies on free places on the internet. Guess what nobody wants to watch YouTube on their home theatre setup and if they do they already have an Apple TV or something else.
This is a product that nobody wanted and everyone already knows they don't need.
