Hi all,

I'm quite a newb when it comes to gaming. The only games I've played so far are the online Demo version of Spearhead (actually a great game), and UT v436x3. I loved Oni back in the OS9 days, but that's about it.

What are some other FPS that you'd recommend. Demos or paid version, either will do. Also, what Mac game site is the best to keep up to date. Thanks!

My friend recently purchased Battlefield 2 for his MacBook Pro. I have played it and it's fairly good and the graphics are great. He seems to like it.

Unreal Tournament is great

No don't get bf2....it used to be a great game but the patches ruined it and the competition in it is gone

If you liked UT, you should try UT2004. Onslaught is awesome.

I enjoyed the hell out of Wolfenstein (the newer one)

Good news is that it ran perfect on my 733 with a 32MB GeeForce, so you should be all set.

I recently bought UT2004 and tried playing it on my MacBook and it ran so horrible I was really frustrated since I payed $40 for it. 007 NightFire ran a little better and it was fun to play a 007 game again. I played some of my games laying around for PC through BootCamp and they ran pretty good. I ran Battlefield 1942, Desert Combat (BF1942 Mod), and the Sims2.

Did you update to the Universal Binary? 'Cause it would really suck in Rosetta.

Make sure you play at your screen's native resolution.

Go to the display prefs and turn down the world detail to "low" and physics to "low." And turn off Dynamic Lighting. It's run much faster and you won't notice anything is missing.

Most importantly: switch on "Preload Player Models." Extremely important!

Get back to me here if you have questions!

Not a Mac game, but Half-Life 2 is a crazy good game, and the Orange Box comes out tomorrow. Not too many Mac FPSs out there, unfortunately. Hopefully Bungie will do something about that some time soon.

Halo 3 for online gaming, Half-Life for everything else!

Who knows, I could get sucked into counterstrike as well!

I have a dinner with my g/f parents tonight, and I'm going into Boston to drink near Fenway tomorrow....man....sometimes I wish I were 10 years old again.....with the same amount of income of course.

UT2004 is great, especially the Onslaught gametype. Single-player Quake 4 is good. Halo is good as well, would be nice if the Mac got Halo 2, Halo 1 is kinda old.

UT3 and Gears of War are coming out in awhile. UT3 should be out in the next couple of months - the PC version is scheduled for November, not sure about the Mac version. I would expect it in November/December.

There hasn't been a great FPS for Macs since the original Quake and its mission paks.

Halo for Mac was pretty good. A little outdated with Halo 3 now out but still a great looking, entertaining fps if you're into scifi type stylings.
