Might be a dumb question...

I have a PowerMac 6500 with SCSI and USB and I want to get a CD-R on the CHEAP!
Iomega has an internal 12x10x32x CDRW Atapi with Burn-proof.
Is there anyway to get an Atapi CD-R drive to work on a Mac, either in an external enclosure, i.e. SCSI, Firewire, USB?
How about an internal adaptor?
Thanks.

Yeah, you can
DO NOT go USB...
I suggest you get a SCSI drive (or enclosure), seeing as FireWire isn't an option. Though... it might just be cheaper to get a SCSI drive.
The SCSI on your 6500 isn't the fastest in the world, but I know it can sustain 8X - I don't know about any higher (I've burned at 8X on my 5500 - same machine essentially).
Avoid USB like the plague...

You could try adding a FireWire PCI card to the machine, but I think that's overkill. The system bus is probably not fast enough to really support FW.
Of course, if you went SCSI as Cipher suggests, you won't need any cards, and you can get a decently fast drive to go with it. I think that's your best bet too.

So is the SCSI chain that is inside my PowerMac 6500 for the internal CD and expansion bay an ATAPI item?
Or are ATAPI and SCSI completely different items, I thought they were.
Thanks.

The internal expansion bay is SCSI. ATAPI and SCSI are different. When I said go SCSI, I should have said external. Even though the upper bay has the connection, there is no bezel made for a CD drive up there. If you went internal you would have an open area on the front of the machine.

Thanks for clearing that up, I appreciate it. Now the real question...
What is the least expensive and best way for me to add a CD-R to my system?
PowerMac 6500/225/192ram/20G/USB
Thanks.
