While Ron Paul manages to fall on the right side of an issue here or there … at the end of the day he is an anachronistic curmudgeon who has absolutely no chance of being elected President. The number of anti-war Republicans who want to be able to smoke weed and patronize prostitutes without fear of legal consequences are simply too few to matter.

Of course, you'll get the government you deserve then.

Pauls 'supporters' were mostly democrats who switched party just long enough to vote for him before turning the coats. His supporters are mostly 18-24 year olds. No wisdom in that crowd.

Neither of the above would bother me all that much and in fact I'd actually support the legalization of marijuana. For this reason I like to have Paul in the discourse, but it's hard to watch. I won't crack on his age although this may have a little to do with his remarkable inability to defend his positions. It's the 911 Truth bs and other publicly expressed views that make him fortunate to pass security clearance into the Capitol building. Then of course there's the political opportunism I spoke of earlier in signing onto corporate subsidies, garnering hundreds of millions of dollars in fluff from you and me so Texas can remain without an income tax, and vehement opposition to action in Afghanistan having warned his staff of the ensuing sh!tstorm only to vote yay on the measure. He's an attention whore and an opportunist, just like the rest of 'em and like most conspiracy theorists, buys 'em all. There's hope for Rand, but Ron? Day late, a dollar short, and a biscuit shy of a full meal deal. IMO.

Paul just keeps on crushing. Looks like your man Gingrich wants to build a moon base. Call Paul crazy for trying to get as much of our federal tax money as he can back into his state, for building bridges etc; but at least his ideas are, how do you say, a little bit more down to earth...
ps every time they tried to get Paul to sling mud he'd say something like "I'm not interested"and just state the problem and his solution.

A surprising national poll released Tuesday found Texas Rep. Ron Paul surging to second place in the GOP presidential field, coming within eight percentage points of front-runner Mitt Romney.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll results show Paul at 21 percent nationally, with Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, at 29 percent.
