Hey guys just an honest question. So we're going to order Final Cut Studio 2 and CS3 for Student Ministries at my school. It's going to be installed on two computers, a MacBook Pro and an iMac. Can we just buy a copy of each? Or should we buy two copies? Not trying to be illegal, but it would be a huge help on the budget if we only had to buy one copy of each. I've also wanted to know about this for apps like RapidWeaver too, which we use for our website.

It'll cost you an extra 20 million years in Purgatory.

No, you can't buy just one copy of each; well, you can buy just one copy, but you can't legally install it on more than one machine. I assume that your school is also buying them through some kind of an educational discount program, in which case they shouldn't be that expensive. The only software that I know of that's allowed to be installed on multiple machines is the Student/Teacher version of Office, and that's allowed on three machines.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

Adobe lets you install on two computers assuming that the apps are not used at the same time, ie your computer at work and your computer at home. Not sure about Apple.

CS3's license allows you to install on two computers - one laptop and one desktop. But it does not allow you to use them at the same time.

FCS only allows one install per machine I believe.

Technically nothing is stopping you.

I stand corrected on Adobe.

It's worth calling them and asking - some companies have non-profit site licenses, or will occasionally give you bulk licensing pricing or something.

Wait. Maybe some Pope will declare it no longer exists much before.

Final Cut Express comes with 2 Installations Keys and my guess is that Final Cut Pro 2 does as well. If I recall correctly from the terms of use, you are allowed to install it on one laptop and one desktop as long as you own both. This, as someone else mentioned, is similar or just like Adobe's licensing policy.
