OK, now that the non beta version is out lets start re-submitting all those powerbook (and ibook) benchmarks using Xbench 1.0.

So lets begin with new round of benchmarks!

Something strange though, please compare my results from Xbench 1.0 to the former 1.0b3! Can someone explain this, or test his 1GHz Ti?
Btw: 40GB HD, Combo, 1GB RAM, stopped nearly all user processes.

So what is wrong with these new results, or the old ones???

Strange, looks like the harddisk is the one slowing it down, all other specs are very similar.

BTW, I thought the L2 cache was running at 1:1 (1GHz) and not 667Mhz??

Surfer raises a good point. Putting aside other strange things like Xbench's returning lower than expected benchmarks for OpenGL when testing the Radeon Mobility 9000 GPU, the reporting of the L2 and L3 caches are plain wrong.

Page 24 of the Developer Note for the 1GHz TiBook clearly states the following:
Level 2 Cache
The data storage for the L2 cache consists of 256 KB of fast static RAM that is built
into the microprocessor chip along with the cache controller and tag storage. The
built-in L2 cache runs at the same clock speed as the microprocessor.

Level 3 Cache
The data storage for the L3 cache is 1 MB of DDR SRAM running at a clock speed
ratio of 5:1. The tag storage for the L3 cache is built into the microprocessor.
The L2 cache runs at 1GHz on the GigaBook, and the L3 cache runs at about 200MHz. Sounds like 1.0b8 would have been a better code for the current version of Xbench...

Note the difference between the two benches.

The first test at the top of the page (Paso) is the Toshiba drive that is now standard.

The second and better score (Patcarla) is with the Fujitsu.

...bieng as I have the Toshiba drive, I will await a better drive to hit the market and install it down the road. My highest score with the beta version was a 106 with 37 GB availible on the drive.

The 1.0 version gave me a top sore of 85.6 with 32.8 GB availible on the drive.

I did notice the lower numbers too compared to the beta-version.

I was first shocked because I had done a test before I sent my PowerBook away for repair and then run a new XBench test yesterday with the now finalized version of the software. It was scary!

But then I booted up XBench 1.0b3 and got the same numbers again as the first test, so I could confirm that nothing was tampered with in the processor etc to make my PowerBook run more quiet.

XBench 1.0b3 (before and after logic board replacement)

XBench 1.0 tests (did two, one where I logged out and one rebooted)

I wonder if the finalized version is the one we should trust, even if higher numbers always look great.

I was aware that i would see a speed difference comparing my 40GB Toshiba drive to the 60GB Fujitsu, but I have not thought about such a big speed difference with my own HD. During my first bench posted I had about 20GB free, now I have only 6GB left, or could this be out of some fragmentation?
