BUT, I still thing OS X and dark theme definitely do not go well together. Adobe apps and MS Entourage (the tools I use 95% of the time) are not usable anymore. After staring at JetBlack for 5 minutes to enjoy it's beauty, had to revert to something else to get some work done

I know it's not Swiz's fault, we all know about text issues...
I have almost the exact same feelings. I love how the theme looks, but I just can't use it.

Love the iContainer, but would like to use the jet engine icon as a Finder or Home icon. Any way to extract it from the iContainer. I have no external drives to "Get Info," then cut & paste from.

Is there anywhere to download the icons for custom use?

Can you swap them in CandyBar, and then save it as your own custom iContainer?

I know it's a slippery-slope for all the third-party possibilities in the Menu Bar, but I think some are popular enough to include also - like Konfabulator and LaunchBar?

It's actually been my fault that the padlock isn't included. I'll fix this.

Hot looking theme! My only gripe is readability issues with some pallettes and the message windows in some of the programs that I use (namely Photoshop and Illustrator)

Is there an easy way to get rid of that dashed line above the active tab in Safari? That and Photoshop are the only problems I have with this theme (aside from text colors which should be fixed in 1.5 -- Stupid X11 still uses black text ).

The dashed line is a preference in SafarIcon. In SafarIcon, go to the preferences tab and deselect add a line above bookmark tabs or something like that.

Dont you feel silly now?

Thanks

And no, I don't feel silly A little miffed if anything. I don't think it should be doing anything but applying a theme, by default. I certainly didn't check the box for that stupid perforation

Lovely theme, might be a bit dark for myself, but still one that will remain in my theme library.
One thing i've noticed is that the buttons in FontBook dont seem to be playing the theming game.
I have noticed that the FontBook buttons dont always play nicely with other themes, I pointed it out to Mr Tew with Titanium7 and he fixed it. It might be an idea to open this app just to see if its working with your themes.

Pixadex is the answer to your problem
Thanx Holigen. That's EXACTLY what I needed. I'm just crazy enough to buy it when the demo's up, too! That jet engine icon is about the sweetest thing I've ever seen. If I had the skills <hint, hint> I'd do a black desktop with that intake front and center... Leaving room for the dock, of course.

Beautiful work, Swiz.

back on topic...

swiz, i love your finder buttons, but the contrast just seems so high. I really want to like this theme, and I'm trying. It's just that the white is really harsh against all that (jet)black.

How about a JetWhite variant, everything completely inverted. A white theme would be at bit more usable I think.

You know what desktop pic would look great with this theme? A really high quality pic of Darth Vader!

I did a GIS for vader but I didn't find anything that was of satisfactory quality to make a desktop. I'm looking for something similar to this but maybe a little more stylized, larger, and higher quality. Anyone know where we can find some of these?

I don't like how all the dialog buttons are all the same color. Windows customizers do that and it pisses me off. Other than that, it looks amazing.

throw 'jet black', '555gg' and 'Xi-MX7' into a blender and mix well and you may pull out a decent glossy black theme leaning towards the 'Xi-MX7' theme.

the widgets and stuff need a lighter border or hi-lite around them to decrease eye strain...if 'Xi-MX7' buttons didn't have that arc on one side they would be great and if borders of the recesses had the lighter border of '555gg' that would work.

and on...

Mix'em ... and you get a bucket of shite. You would
not know true quality design if it bit your ass.

'jet black' shines due to the designers outstanding
artistic ability - the others you mention are fine examples
of perseverance of the inexperienced, inelegant artisan.

The only decent dark themes released so
far are Daisuke's Neos and swiz's JetBlack.

Benign style postage...

Benign, I have to
disagree with you.
I think that Pat's
Xi-Mx7 theme is
a very nice one, and
I used it a lot longer
than some other
themes out there.

While the 5/g thing
isn't a great theme,
it's a great improvement
over some of that
guy's earlier works.
I can also see why
you post like this.
It's really fun, makes
your posts seem much
longer than they really
are.

Cody those are tight. I was gonna ask you to make them 1680x1040 for me but I can just do that myself with the black background.

Regarding the iTunes squares, that is my oversight, I will fix that and post back here when I do.

That screenie of PatCarlas new theme is indeed nice, although I dont think any of the other themes mentioned here are near the same level of JetBlack when it comes to cohesiveness and professionalism though. I may sound like I am full of myself but...but nothing. I think JetBlack speaks for itself.

Thanks! I did them just for myself, but I figured someone else might want 'em.

I may go back and re-do them later. There is a bit of jaggieness around the eges of the imperial logo that bothers me...
