A new opening for a UI engineer at Apple indicates that the company has major plans for Siri, says AppleInsider. The person will be expected to work on the presentation of results in Siri's conversation view, integrating new apps and services into the voice command system. Apple describes Siri as "an entire miniature OS within the OS."

Some details of the job listing may hint that Apple is planning to bring Siri to the Mac. Candidates must be familiar with APIs for both OS X and iOS, for example, and Apple specially asks for familiarity with the core of OS X. The company moreover demands "passion for the Macintosh platform and writing simple, elegant software that is easy and fun to use." Siri began as a third-party app for the iPhone until Apple bought out its developer and integrated the technology into iOS. Since then, the feature has spread to the iPad and iPod touch. Migrating to the Mac could be a logical next step, but potentially complicated by the scope and flexibility of OS X.

1984: Mac says, "Hello, World." 2013: "Hello, Computer."
