This problem is on G4's 400 and 450 mhz machines running OS 9.0.4. It has been proven that the Appleshare Prep file becomes corrupted when the option in the Apple Menu Items Control Panel that remember X amount of Documents, Application and Servers is on. It creates alias' of the servers in a server folder located in the System folder. The solution of course is to uncheck the option to remember and delete any alias.
However, when servicing those machines I have found that the Apple Menu Items Control Panel Option has been turned back on. When asking those that work on the workstations if it had been turned back on they state no or that they have never been in that control panel.
I thought that possibly the reason for it coming back on is that some folks have placed a checkmark next to the server in the Chooser. We encourage them to connect manually every startup but some do check the boxes to have them mount automatically. Has anyone experienced the Apple Menu Item remembering option turn back on because the servers automatically mount?
The theory has been tested on one and so far it has not panned out. Has anyone had problems with the ApplesharePrep Preference?
Any tips, tricks ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciative. I do consider that the control panel option might be coming back on because of the user but do want to check all avenues on this issue.
Thank you in advance!
