Thanks, mdc & Ratm...

Those definitely ARE cool effects. th F-11 even gave me my first view of Safari "broken-mercury" effect* in scroll widget (mentioned in Safari threads).

Nice to leave a friend or colleague's Mac in that about-to-go-nuts state... (If you want to downright irritate them, do a bunch of shift-F10s while the dock menu is up)

I did this 30 times to myself...then found out that I could

1. Continue to watch quicktime trailers....and
2. Continue to read the forum pages in Safari using the scroll wheel...

Great Trick

Nice!
Is there any way to get those dock tricks (invisible background & skewed to one side) to work without changing the theme?

Those are just the result of hidden options in Dock's plist. You don't need any themer to enable them, you just need to either hack the .plist yourself or use one of the many free programs that do it for you. I use Transparent Dock. It's nagware, but it's well worth the registration fee

I'd be interested to know where I can set a clear background.

I did a

Code:
me$ find /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app -name "*.plist" -print /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Info.plist /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/default.plist /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/DockMenus.plist/System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/version.plist
Then I looked at the .plist files and tried to find something like a setting for the background color/opacity/etc. but couldn't find anything.

Does anybody here know which file and which sibling to edit? I'd rather do it by hand then buy a utility to do something as simple as this.

Should've been more specific. I meant its Preferences plist, as in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist.

I can't find the parts about transparency there, but I can find the ones about pinning and various other hidden options.

And I would honestly suggest either TransparentDock or Tinkertool still, as they both do the job quite aptly and don't install anything anywhere.
