I love the dev builds of Adium 2, but as of the Feb 16 (or is it 17?) build, they removed the status circles feature. It is now dead to me.

Anyone have a suggestion on a new AIM client? Adium 2 was just starting to get good with gaim built in. :-(

Adium 2 is undergoing major changes in the way status is going to be dealt with, and a whole lot of other stuff. I wouldn't give up on it like that.

When this transition stage is over, I'd suggest you try it out again. In the meantime, the other major clients for Mac OS X are Fire, Proteus, iChat, and all the official ones.

Use what works for you.

Adium 2 is certainly not dead though.

The fact that one feature got removed in the daily binary doesn't mean something better will not be impletemented in the hopefully near future.

It's alpha software, not finished and undergoing some serious changes, so wait until it is officially released to say it is dead.

Maybe dead for you, that's fine, but not for the rest of the world.

It's sad that you are so quick to drop the app after a single change during the alpha stage. Adam has said that a replacement is in the works. Patience... Don't get your panties in a twist.

I don't understand why it would be taken out BEFORE the replacement was done?

Oh well.

Does Adium 2 have a roadmap of sorts? The current direction seems a little hap hazard (not that they're not doing a fantastic job, but the removal of some features even before they have been finished is a little odd).

Guys, it's an alpha. Even the contact list editor was removed a few weeks back. If the instability of features bothers you so much, don't use it until it at least goes beta.

The title of the thread is very misleading, it gives the impression that development of Adium 2 has ceased. That's not a very nice thing for the original poster to do to the developers of Adium, just because he's pissy over one feature.

fizz: I changed the name of the title, however it doesn't show up as changed? Maybe it'll take a little bit.

Anyways, I'm not pissy. Just shocked and disappointed.

Oh well.

As I said in the official Adium forum...

CALM DOWN

It's a single feature from an IM client that has been marked for death for months now, not a sibling that you lost.

If you didn't understand, perhaps it would have been better to ask? Rather than freaking out and slamming us here, no?

Oh, but that would be too logical and wouldn't involve enough drama. OMG OMG the sky is falling!

I heard it! The sqwack! IT'S ALIVE!!!

If losing this specific implementation of a feature is such a big deal, stick with v.58 (or whatever version). Everythings been stable and well done for me, and I do see improvements all the time. The only problems I have with Adium right now, is (my?) inability to make notificatiions for groups (so buddies in one group give notifications, other groups do not, think "Buddies", "Aquaintences", and "Jerks" groups) so i have to do it one buddy at a time, and the filetransfer over jabber thing, but that's (lib)GAIM's problem.

Admin, someone, change the thread subject please.

Actually, if you are talking about the even notifications, then that is the even notifications, and not libgaim

Growl will replace these at a later point

It's a circle that shows your status. And it will also fetch you a fresh cup of coffee each and every 10 seconds for the rest of 2004 and 2005 until Tiger comes out. Niiice. No? Okay, thought not.

Yes, I agree with that statement... I thought development had ceased thanks to the misleading title. Can people not be more careful with such incorrect statements?

TheTick, just the alerts, like sounds, etc. Was away from my machine, could only think of "event notifications", so i just called them all notifications. In .60 at least, if you try and set alerts in the info for a group, adium crashed, as if it wasn't implemented yet. In Adium 1, buddies in collapsed groups wouldn't give any alerts, but people in my buddylist that I don't talk to often were causing lots of noise signing on and off in Adium2. So, I did it all manually, not fun but i'm glad that's done.

Filetransfers, that's libgaim. Over Jabber, it doesn't seem to be working, it might be the firewalls in the way (that's in the todo, or readme, i forget), once accepted nothing happens. oh well.
