There is plenty of ways...seriously! 1st, why don't you go to the Apple store and purchase a copy, and then I'll post back how to check your version on your bootleg cd.

AAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH.

If it is in the retail box, it is of course the "gold" build. obviously you have "acquired" it by other means and have no business asking for help here or anywhere else. buy it, then people will help you out.

Yes, 8A428 is the Gold Master build.
I wonder what they'd call a beta build to at Apple these days...

The best way to tell what build it is would be to go to the Apple store and buy a copy of Tiger. They will gladly verify that it's a retail version before you install it.

no one is using anything illegal here, I just want to make sure that the copy I have is not a dev pre-release, I have a bunch of copies and the one I bought it mixed in with them.

So no one knows how to tell before install.

You mean Apple dosen't ship the OS as a burnt dvd-r with "OMG Tiger" written on it in sharpie marker? I knew that buying from the swap meet was a bad idea...

You didn't buy anything, you lying sack of sh*t.

The final disc is devoid of any developer references, and the only developer releases are clearly labeled as such.

And yes, many people know how to tell what build it is before you install it, including myself. It's in a text file on the DVD. I'll even give you a hint: it's somewhere in /System/Library on the DVD. If you stop lying, perhaps someone will answer your question.

At least come up with something more creative than "the copies got mixed together".

I'm tempted to lock the thread, but it's far more interesting watching people bash the dumb pirate.

I know how to tell, BTW...

I dunno if this is true, but this worked for me. Open the Tiger box you would buy at Apple retail or a online store, and they have a DVD in there. Still with me? Good. Now that DVD probably has a Silver X on it, with the phrase "Mac OS X Tiger". If thats your Disc, then congrats sir you have a RARE GM copy. How easy is that!

Come on guys, help him out...

To answer your question on the build number, you'll have to open the Terminal and type edited/

(To those who have legit copies of OS X, you don't need to do that)

Seriously why even ask this question if it was legit, no way you would get a developers copy in a retail box lol.

Well wait, he must think the copy in his retail box was SUSPICIOUSLY WEIRD for him to ask.

Instead of a big X and Tiger and 10.4, it said "DUDE, IT"S A LIGER" on it and it had a picture
of the cast of "Freaks and Geeks" silkscreened on it.

One has to wonder how long this punk kid sat around trying to think up a plausible reason.

Cut your losses kid. If you steal Apple crap, you're not going to get much help from people who actually support the company.

Buy a copy and come on back. It's the right thing to do.
