What happened to all of my icons?!?

	HELP! I just got a new iBook and I have been using OS 9 and X, but most of my application icons in OS 9 have changed into what looks like appleworks documents!?!?! I did update to appleworks for OS X if that had to do with anything, how do I get them back?? Thanks!
