Can anyone help me help a friend of a friend?
<<Ever since a friend bought his Beige tower G3,(I am waiting for details
on model, OS ver). His PC Sony Trinitron 15" has had a horrible greenish
tint on the menu bar and each of the icons, and a blue grainy tint to the
background on the desktop. I tried to adjust the monitor resolution but
to no avail. He uses a db 15 adapter to hook up to the onboard video on
his mac. The monitor looks great on a regular pc which is a good sign that
there is nothing wrong with his monitor.>>
I'm not sure what to suggest.
Any help appreciated.
Regards

Try and find another monitor cable adapter. That one might be bad.

Tony,
these VGA adapters for connecting PC monitors to a Mac like the beige G3 are a little bit tricky.
Using Sony monitors, I have found out the Nokia "blue-mode" adapters work fine which do not have switches at all. This Nokia adapter type supports monitors up to 17" diagonal which will be sufficient in your friend's case.
As to adapters using DIP switches, there are two models by Unimac I can recommend in general, the Unimac 82D (with two rows of 8 switches) and the UnimacFly (with 8 switches in total). Both adapters have the most basic settings printed on their enclosures, so you will not have to look for this little sheet of paper in a year or two ;-)
Most of the other adapters are just no-name products and if they use switches, you could be out of luck without the settings guide.
Regards,
Walter.

Is your friend of a friend the orginal owner? If he/she is, then Sony will send him a mac adapter FREE. Call tech support with the model number.
Second cheak the dip switches on your adapter, if it has them, may be set to sync on green causes color shift like you describe and other problems.
Third if the video card is an Ixmicro make sure the sync on green is not turn on in the Ixmicro control panel.
Thats all I could think of. I hope this helps.

Try zapping the PRAM just to be sure. If it dosent work then get a new adapter.
