Accessory manufacturer VisionTek today announced the new VisionTek USB Pocket SSD line of thumb drive-sized SSDs. The USB 3.0 drive can be used with nearly any Windows, OS X, and Linux based system, with performance of up to 455MB/s read and 440MB/s write in a pocket-sized drive.
VisionTek suggests that the drive can be used for an operating system on-the-go, to shuttle between computers, given the speed. Other suggested uses are custom user environments sandboxed apart from the main operating system, high-speed backup, or large capacity, readily mobile media storage.
The VisionTek USB Pocket SSD comes in 120GB and 240GB sizes. Retail prices are $110 and $175 respectively. Both models are designed and built in the US and are available immediately directly from VisionTek, and other select resellers.

Looks like Mushkin beat them to it, http://poweredbymushkin.com/catalog/33-ventura-ultra, at a much better price ($128 Amazon).

But the VisionTek models don't throttle down in speed because of overheating. Well known issue that affects the Mushkin...slows to 20MB/s!
