I've seen the threads about enabling Q2Dx and I've played with Quartz debug, but I really don't know what QE and Q2DX do. Enabling Q2DX seems to slow my G5 2.0 (x800) down.

What are they and what do they do?

Or more directly:
First read this page: http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/macosx-10.4.ars/13
then this page: http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/macosx-10.4.ars/14

and you'll know everything you could want to.

Thanks that's more like it.

I'm reading through the entire article right now - excellent detailed review.

I've answered this question myself three times, and I've seen other people have answer it several more times. I'm substantial-and-informative-replied-out, man.
