I don't buy that Tony Curtis had a better tush than Marilyn-I've seen Some Like It Hot many times, and both Tony and Jack made a big deal out of padding properly to look more girlish. That's a story point, not an observation of their anatomy. At one point, Jack's character comments on Marilyn's character's bottom, saying it looks "like jello on springs!" A lot of jiggle was the cultural norm then, while today we sort of expect a bit more tone (with all the "muffin tops" around looking more like "you used too small a cake pan", I think this is a weird dichotomy).

But as osiris pointed out, Marilyn had something beyond a shape. She had a personality that made her more interesting and desirable. Far from being a bubble-head, even by today's standards, she was well-read, thoughtful, and very intelligent (though troubled). But she could turn on the "oh gee, mister!" persona when she wanted, and that made her amazingly attractive. Nobody but the most naive reader of movie magazines at the time bought that her "oh gee" persona was really her.

Man, that's BS. Completely and utterly subjective. All women are "shaped like a woman". Women may have curves (I do like some "curvy" chicks btw, as long as they're thin and curvy). It's unfortunate that "curvy" nowadays is synonymous with "fat" (á la Beyonce or whatever).

Curves as a sign of biological fitness is no more valid than fatness - that also suggests a rich environment. Very many "signs" of biological fitness that work in nature break down in modern Western human society.

BTW, Marilyn wasn't curvy; she was fat, in my opinion. Whether that was a product of the era or whatever isn't relevant to me, it's just an observation based purely on how she looks.

And now for something completely different:

She has gained weight over time (drug addiction will do that to you), but she was never fat. Unless you're into Twiggy …  So thin? No. Normal? Yes. Fat? No way.

I used to be really into skinny gals when I was younger. As I got older I guess I started appreciating the figure and benefits a softer body gives. I'm a skinny guy myself, so It's just not me wanting to be with people like me.. there is just something voluptuous about a woman with curves.

She was 27 when she was Playboy's first center fold (b 06/01/1926)
The first issue, published in December 1953, was undated, as Hefner was unsure whether or not there would be a second issue. He produced it in his Hyde Park kitchen. The first centerfold was Marilyn Monroe, although the picture used originally was taken for a calendar, rather than for Playboy. The first issue was an immediate sensation; it sold out in weeks. Known circulation was 53,991 (Source: Playboy Collector's Association Playboy Magazine Price Guide). The cover price was 50¢. Copies of the first issue in mint to near mint condition sold for over $5,000 in 2002.

The incredibly bad angle, totally absent photographer's skill, and apparent application of BAD post-processing helped make that a sucky picture. NOBODY looks "fabulous" all the time, but paparazzi have a patent on making nice looking people look like crap on a stick. Witness this picture-from The Star? It's some gossip rag-you can tell by the stupid inset picture that's supposed to amaze people with a picture of a tattoo.

Final point on Marilyn: this picture was taken a very short time before her death; she was physically in pretty good shape there, and hardly a "porker" by any means. No telling how she'd have done if she'd gotten to her 40s, but consider how others from that time managed-Sophia Loren, for example,

or Joey Heatherton (such a hot little number that she got exceptionally straight women's attention).

An interesting historical note: I will soon be related by marriage to the man who printed the first issue of Playboy.

Megan Fox would be so much hotter if she didn't ruin her body with absolutely idiotic tattoos. I'm not against tattoos per se, but hers are just awful!

I think it's more a photographic effect-it looks like a combination of slightly overexposed and just slightly out of focus. I could be wrong... And remember what sorts of effects a certain magazine publisher managed by just putting a thin film of Vaseline around the outside of his camera's lens... Lots of ways to alter an image in-camera.
