This has happened to me. Sometimes I get no sound.

A complete shut down and then a cold restart usually solves it.

If not, you may have some disk corruption and need to run a utility like Disk Warrior.

Do you get the volume changing bezel with a no/stop sign below it?

Try plugging in and unplugging some headphones a few times, sometimes the port gets confused because the part which tells the computer that something's inserted into the slot doesn't pop back out or it thinks there's an optical jack in there.

Yes i do. I tried plugging some headphones in and out a couple times but still the same thing. Do u think i might have broken the inside of the port some how?

I doubt it is the port - sometimes a damaged port can result in no sound because the port thinks an optical connection is there, but this will result no sound.

Also when i plug in the headphones sound still comes out through the computer speakers and i get no sound coming out the headphones. Am i suppose to change some settings before pluggin in the headphones or should the sound just switch automatically to the headphones?

Peeb, you're right.

Kevin, I'm even more confused as to what's wrong with it now.

Try resetting the PRAM. To do this, reboot, hold down command (apple key) + option (alt key) + P + R right after the apple chime, keep holding it until you hear 3 more chimes.
