Regarding unlocked/jail broken iPhones, how do they handle software updates?
For instance, we all know Apple is prepping a major update for the iPhone. For a person who has an unlocked/jail broken phone, will they simply be able to update when it is available?

I believe they simply go back to their locked state, no harm done really, you just have to jailbrake it again.

So, does jail breaking work regardless of the software update? Or after every software do you have to wait for the jailbreak team to release a new jail break everytime apple releases an update?

Each jailbreak is specific to each software version, because it has to exploit certain parts - just check some jailbreaking sites to find out what you should do.
