Meh.

In a nutshell, several people have said it's an amazing, big-screen TOS episode. Perfect balance of action and humor.

All the reboot films, thus far, have been decent enough on their own, but as ST films they're just loud, over-blown fare for the ADHD generation. "Cynical jerk"? The irony of your statement is simply too high for me to form a reply. Go pound sand.

As for Ghostbusters, it's gotten a 78% rating on RT. That's damn impressive. "shockingly poor"? What planet are you from?
The one where Richard Roeper gives zero f*cks and says it like it is, telling the PC/SJW generation to suck it:

“Ghostbusters” is a horror from start to finish, and that’s not me saying it’s legitimately scary.

More like I was horrified by what was transpiring onscreen.

How could so many talented, well-meaning artists, who clearly loved and respected the original, produce such a raggedy-looking, thuddingly unfunny, utterly unnecessary reboot?

For months, controversy has swirled around the new “Ghostbusters” movie. The trailer was reportedly the most hated in YouTube history, for what that’s worth (or not worth), which led to some pundits saying some of that hate was rooted in sexism. Others said the fact the Leslie Jones character wasn’t a scientist and seemed to have a role that called for her to play into stereotypes smacked of racism.

Of course, people were voicing these opinions without having seen the entire movie. Well, I have seen it — and while I believe the concerns about racial stereotypes were overblown, “Ghostbusters” is one of the worst movies of the year for multiple other reasons, including:

Bad acting.
Uninspired directing, editing, cinematography and music.
Cheesy special effects.
A forgettable villain.
A terrible script.
It's simple: Most reviewers are scared of losing their jobs and don't want the crybullies to call them "misogynists" for giving the film a bad score, so they give it just enough points to keep it on the low side of "positive", keeping the hounds at bay. I saw it during a press screening last weekend (because a local reviewer is a buddy of mine), and I give it a 2 out of 5, not because the actors are female, but because the writing and directing is terrible. Paul Feig is what's wrong with that film, more than anything else (though, I have to say the FX are cheesy as hell, especially for a $150M endeavor).

86% and a 7.5/10 average is "Meh"? You're going to say that after celebrating the new Ghostbusters' 74% (and falling) and 6.6/10 average (barely above the "positive" cutoff)? You're a hoot, man.

AP is trying to spin this whole thing, asking for an explanation of how all the Star Trek properties tie together. What a dope.

Sorry, AP, it's called "derivative work".

I've only heard one person who said it was their least favorite, and they still liked it.

I've heard it described as a giant sized TOS episode.

I've also heard the move involves, get this... space exploration.

So... it will start well, but end up with a tramp freighter visiting a new debris field every week to hunt for replicator parts.

And free, two-day delivery.

Not a great opening @$60M, at this rate STB will be lucky to break even on its $180M budget, not counting its $30M ad campaign. I've not seen it yet, I'll try to get to it sometime this week.

That doesn't include the $13.5M from Thursday, so total is $73.5M since opening.

I'm sure it'll hit its budget lol. It's already at $100M worldwide.

It's been tried. Studios, and the audience, are leery of new shiny things.

With an 80% take on BO in the US, and 70%, or less, overseas, we'll see. It'll need to take ~$250M to break even (probably will).

I think they're going with a "Space Shuttle" motif, in which case Enterprise and Columbia were already taken (and it's pretty reasonable that they'd want to skip Challenger).

I place it around a 6/10, better than the 2nd, not as good as the 1st. I agree, it's mostly "meh".

Suicide Squad, despite the reviews, is really good, though. Best DC comics movie since Nolan's DK.

I give it a solid 7/10, 8/10 within the genre. I'm a big Margot Robbie fan, though.

You know your movie's got a problem when instead of paying attention to what's going on, I'm asking myself "I wonder if it was a pain in the ass to draw that exact same trickle of blood on Karl Urban's forehead every morning."

An example of the kinda thing I was looking for...

I want there to be some sort of Spiderman rig the Federation built for when the artificial gravity goes, or the saucer ends up on a planet. Instead of trying to climb the "floor", I want them doing insane, technology assisted, parkour-type shit. That's in Lin's wheelhouse, right?

Or, to take it an a completely different direction, during thr end credits, you swoop by a planet with a giant hole through the center. I want that. You know... imagination.

Their intention is obvious, however it doesn't change that 99% of the time when you hear Discovery used as a proper noun its in reference to the channel.

I had a good time.

There were structural problems, and obviously could have used more Joker, but they didn't crater it.

::shrug:: The first thing I thought of when I saw the title was the space shuttle. The second thing was the ship from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Then again, I'm just an old geek, so YMMV I guess.

Poor things, it's because the people who know have agreed to NDAs. You'll need to wait, just like everyone else.

Actually it's been clear for quite some time that CTP is absolutely full of sh*t. You see taken INDIVIDUALLY one could reasonably give him the benefit of the doubt on the things he claims. But once you start looking at all his claims over time in AGGREGATE ... that's when the BS meter starts registering big time. You can bet your next three paychecks that all he will do is talk sh*t with confidence but NEVER back up anything he claims with EVIDENCE. And when challenged he'll spend all his energy attacking YOU instead of even attempting to PROVE what he says. That's his M.O. And it's staring everyone right in the face.

If you ever stopped lying, whether it's about politics or what other people have said, I'd probably worry about you. It's such an ingrained part of your nature that I believe you may actually think that way. It's twisted and a little frightening, but it's all part of what you've become. You truly can't help yourself, it's a disability of sorts and I feel pity for you.
