I got it from Newegg yesterday. IMO it's the best installment of the Half Life series yet, but I'm sure Episode 2 will leave it in the dust. Hunters FTW.
Who's played it? What are your thoughts?

I wish I could. Just finished HL2 on the Xbox and it's an awesome game. I guess I'll just have to keep saving for an Intel iMac...

I'm confused...what's this "episode 1" and "episode 2" stuff? What episode was Half Life 2? Zero?

No, let me explain.
Half Life 1
Present day
At the Black Mesa Research facility
Aliens from Xen go through an open portal and you have to kill them
Half Life 2
Ten years later
Somewhere near Black Mesa
The combine has taken control of earth and you have to battle them
Half Life 2: Episode 1
Starts exactly where Half Life 2 left off
Same location
You've destroyed most of the combine and now you must finish them
Half Life 2: Episode 2 (not out yet)
Starts exactly where Half Life 2: Episode 1 left off
Same location
You've destroyed City 17 and the Citadel, and now you have to travel to somewhere else (unknown)
Half Life 2: Episode 3 (not out yet)
Starts exactly where Half Life 2: Episode 2 left off
Same location
Nobody knows what it's gonna be about

Yeah, but why's it "episode 1" if it comes AFTER Half-Life 2?

It's the continuation of the Half Life 2 game. I see what you're saying, but you can't change their shoddy logic now.

HL2 just doesn't do it for me, sadly not even Episode 1, which I hoped to be an improvement of some sorts.
It's got great atmospherics, but it's a roller coaster ride with no exploration or alternative paths.
More a movie than a game, really.
But I don't regret having wasted time playing it, though, because now I can enjoy Gordon Frohman's adventures instead

Half Life 2 is fantastic on the Xbox! They achieved that solid console "feel." My *only* complaint is that the frame rate drops a little here and there, but it's not very noticeable. It gets a 5 out of 5 from me as one of the best Xbox titles to date. And Episode 1 is what may convince me to buy a 360.
