You're right. The bug is there if you 'preview' an mp3 as well.

No bananas in my finder. I can select something on the desktop when previewing a qt movie in the finder.

This update really feels good. Now if MacNN could do something about the slow text typing in these forums...

Edited the AI reference...oooooops. Looking at too many tabs at the moment. Forgot where I was.

Boot speed is pre 10.3.2 speed now (35 sec from chime to login window) and the preview problem i have is that if I click on the desktop while a QT movie preview is playing the cusor selects 2 items on the desktop but it will individualy select an item only if exactly on top of it. Ejecting network drives is much faster and seems to actually eject...good update IMHO.

My suggestion is to use pithhelmet to disable the animated gifs that are the cause of the problem.

you don't need pithhelmet. you can turn those off in the vB settings.

is it just me, or 10.3.3 seems to be faster than 10.3.2? apps launch faster, the animation in the Dock is smoother, overall reactivity of the interface seems to be improved?

I thought the same thing at first. Then I realized the problem is not selecting icons. It's drag selecting. The selection area goes "bananas."

Same here. Single icons select fine. Drag-selecting multiple icons=bananas.

Right. You don't actually have to select anything, simply click, hold and drag the mouse around on the desktop. For example, try to make a square as you click and hold the mouse and some of you will the bananas right before your eyes.

Even dragging multiple icons or drawing a square causes no problems here.

I had 18 days uptime but it seems to be worth the loss. I also get that banana-rama problem, since 10.3.0.

Little ditty I learned from the AI forums is that there's an UPS control in the Energy Saver preference.

Cool little perk.

Anybody use this yet?

I have a APC backups 725, it comes with software but my current seems to spike a bit and will bring my machine out of sleep in the middle of the night if i have the "auto backup/save" software installed so i unplugged the usb portion of the UPS.

My iMac DVSE is used as an airport base station for my PB. Still can't share using rendezvous. Both updated to 10.3.3.

Still have to check and see if I can wirelessly connect to our XBox with the linksys wireless game adaptor but my intuition says no.

Why does everybody care about how fast the system will boot up?

What I'd like to know is whether that annoying Desktop icon shadow problem is fixed? I haven't had a chance to play around with it yet...

I don't think Safari downloads 2 times now (like when you load a page, and then want to drag and drop a file)... It only takes one download, not 2...

I had to use it today not long after I installed 10.3.3 (the electricians did a horrible job in these dorms, so I lose power about once a week). It worked very well. I have it set to sleep the monitor after a minute, the computer after 2 minutes, and shut down with 2 minutes of battery power left. Also, since I have a G5, I was able to select reduced CPU speed when running off the UPS, to conserve the power a little longer.

The only thing I was dissatisfied by was the inability of distributed.net to stop when running on battery power (it is supposed to do this). This made my machine shut down rather quickly (I didn't have reduced CPU set then, so hopefully that will help).

Otherwise, I'm glad to get rid of third party system software.

How has Apple changed the way networking thru the side bar works? ...because it actually works now.

However, drive icons on the desktop still don't correctly update the listed space free. (eg. Delete a file in the drive and empty the trash, and it still registers on the desktop the same free space as before, as if the file were still there.) The space free still registers fine in the Finder though.

I was having good results with this update until I restarted for the 2nd time. Safari loaded my home page (news.google.com) really slowly and the beachball came up. It then froze and the grey power down or restart message came up. In addition I noticed that ALL of my bookmarks had disappeared. I found this very odd.

I restarted to find the login screen was very slow and after I typed in my user name, I proceeded to type in my password. None of the "" marks showed and the beachball came up again. Then the power down or restart message came up again.

I restarted again and have no problems, but I do think the fact that my bookmarks are gone is weird. Luckily I since I just switched, I have them backed up to CD.

Any clues?

You all may want to take a few seconds before installing this update.

I was looking around trying to find differences and the UPS option is not there in my energy control panel. Does this only show up if I am attached to one? I don't use one it's just a curiosity.

In 10.3.0-10.3.2, there were two totally separate ways of mounting servers, with wildly different results: 1) type in the URL, 2) Browse to the server.

1) resulted in the server showing up on the desktop, sidebar, etc., basically the same as in Mac OS 10.2.8 and earlier. (Such volumes were mounted under /Volumes just like any other disk.)

2) resulted in the server simply staying in Network. Nothing appeared on the desktop or anywhere else, and in fact the only (!) way to unmount such a server without the command line was to grab the proxy icon from its window (requiring, of course, that you open it) and dragging that to the trash -- which also made it impossible to re-connect to it, because it no longer showed up in Network!!! (Such volumes mounted under /private/var/automount [or something like that... it was WAY too esoteric for me to remember].) Also, the authentication window for this method was super-simplified, without even the option to save the password in the Keychain.

In 10.3.3, when you browse to a server, it now just takes you to the same authentication window as 2), and behaves exactly as if you'd typed in the URL.

I still prefer 10.2's network browser better. But if 10.3.3's works as reliably as 10.2's, then I'll be happy.

Just noticed the update deleted my install of the lasted version of rsync. rsync --version gave me back 2.5.7, the version which comes standard with OS X. Unfortunately, that particular version doesn't seem to like hfs+. No big deal to reinstall, but I wondered if anyone else out there noticed if any of the other utilities in /usr/bin were replaced. BTW, my updated version of pico was untouched.

Since installing 10.3.3..........

Has anyone with a Powerbook (1.33 here 1gig) have heat issues.

Bottom very warm with fan cycling and keyboard very warm now.

Also Repair Permissions repeatedly shows:

We are using special permissions for the file or directory ./System/Library/Filesystems/cd9660.fs/cd9660.util. New permissions are 33261

iTunes starts fans immediately; visualizer shows better framerates but cooks now.

What procedure to reinstall (revert) to 10.3.2

Thanks alot
