Yea, pretty much the entire industry is disappointed with the laptop chips in the ATi HD2000 series. nVidia's mobile 8000 series picked up a big lead this generation

I've seen too many videos of COD 4, Crysis, Bioshock and others running on the iMac to think it a dissapointment.

hmmm... where do I begin.
Sorry for the delay in response.
My laptop is a MacBook Pro 17 inch, 2.4ghz intel, 4gigs of ram, 160gb 7200 rpm hdd, 8600 video card
My iMac is 24 inch, 2.4ghz intel, 4gigs of ram, 320gb hdd 2600 HD video cardthe only common game that I have tested on both is COD 4.
COD 4 runs very well on my MacBook Pro. It is even very playable at full HD resolution with a lot of the features turned up.
COD 4 runs like poo on the iMac at like 1600x1200 or so.
I am using boot camp and booting directly into windows.
hmmm... also Far Cry runs very well on the iMac, but that is a couple generations ago game.
I was going to try crysis, but I may not given this recent set of events.
An thoughts or suggestions?

I have no complaints about the performance of my new iMac in games.

Although I do only play World of Warcraft on it but it seems very nice to play with all the settings turned up to full.

Like you I have the 2.4GHz with the Radeon HD 2600 and 4GB of RAM

I also have a 2.8 Ghz iMac 24" Alum ... 4 gigs of ram ... With all settings max'd out, WoW tends to run just a bit choppy, though not 100% of the time: it seems to depend on where I am within the game; however, it's not unplayable, which is to say, I can live with it. My main concern was the temperature of the video card (it runs at around 135F at full load during the game; I run the smcFanControl app at half speed). I had been playing Second Life, but that app is hell on the video card, and in addition, it seems to be quite an unstable app., in that it crashes constantly, lag, etc.

OS X (10.5.6); Grado SR 60 & RS1 headphones; HeadRoom headphone amp w/ Astrodyne power supply

From everything I've gathered, the GPU on a 2.8ghz iMac running at 130-140 degrees is normal. Mine runs at 130 degrees when I'm not doing much of anything.

Here's a screen shot I just took while typing this.

I couldn't tell you as I've never had the 2.4. Given most of the work is done by the GPU and not the CPU in the game, the difference is probably hardly noticeable since the GPU's are the same. But I'm just guessing. When I talked to the genius at the Apple store they said "if you want to game you definitely want the 2.8 Extreme". I don't know how much stock I put in that, but I bought it anyway because I wanted it.

i have been playing the Witcher at full rez with the options on medium or high on my iMac (i just got it yesterday, and the first thing i did, after transferring my files to it and updating, was to install windows and The Witcher) with no problems. i'm quite happy with the game performance of my machine, it's certainly a lot better than my MBP with it's x1600.

Dude, could you please be MORE vague. About everything, your laptop, your desktop, the games.

Edit: Isee, you finllay got it posted. Why is is that every other thread about a specific problem or complaint does not mention any details about the system, software and OS. It's such a waste of time that people who want to reply have to ask fo the information first.

sorry, I was being general about gaming performance.
Crysis, even with the new patches is understandable because it beings nearly every computer to its knees.
COD4 on my laptop MacBook Pro 17 4gigs of ram 2.4ghz 160 7200 rpm HDD
, I get better performance that the iMac with nearly all of the same specs.
the gap will widen even more when I get the New MacBook Pro
