A while ago a story in my local paper gave the results of a poll that showed 77% of US citizens believe in angels. The breakdown by categories is like this:
By sex
72% of men
81% of women
By age
83% of 18-24 year olds
78% of 25-44 year olds
77% of 45-64 year olds
72% of 65 year olds or older
By race
76% of whites
87% of blacks
76% or Hispanics
57% of Asians
By education
7% of non-high school graduates (a very odd figure, I think; knowing my newspaper, they probably printed it incorrectly)
80% of high school grads
82% of those with some college
74% of college grads
63% of those with some post-grad study
By income
83% of those below US$25,000
81% of those between 25,000 and 40,000
77% of those between 40,000 and 60,000
74% of those between 60,000 and 80,000
64% of those above 80,000
By region
71% of Northeast
83% of S outh
77% of Midwest
73% of West
So how do you react to these figures? Do they jibe with your experieces? Do they seem strange? (They do to me, but I can sort of corroborate them: we started Hamlet in my Shakespeare class, so I asked the students how many believed in ghosts. Of 29 people in the class, only three said they did not.)

INTERESTING. i never completely dismiss anything but, i try not to think about weird stuff like this. I think about great design, what's on tv, macs, girls and etc. Things like that of which you mentioned may or may not be "real" but it'd be pretty scary either way.
i think some of these people when asked may be saying yes to the idea of angels and ghosts

Well there's that American series Touched by an Uncle. Er, I mean, Touched by an Angel.
It goes with the whole god thing doesn't it?
Luckily we ride around on the shoulders of giants....

Studies have also shown that more people believe in aliens than in God. Now if we can only get them to realize that God is an alien!

In ancient times people didn't know what the stars or planets were and believed they were beings of light who watched over humans. This gave way to pantheons of deities or what the Old Testament calls 'The Shining Host' or 'angels'.
Today people are stupid if they can't understand something so simple to understand.
