I'm not sure anyone else finds the automatic spinning in Apple's product QTVRs annoying, but unlike previous ones which you could download, the play button is dimmed out for the iMac QTVR, even in the Quicktime Player!

It can be found on Apple's Hardware Gallery page, or can be directly downloaded here.

I hope no one's posted this already, but here's how to fix it!

1) Download it directly to your hard drive if you haven't done so already. If the direct link above doesn't work, go to the gallery page, and then view the source for it. Just search for .mov, and the url that belongs to it will be the direct addy for it.

2) Open it in Quicktime Player. I'm pretty sure this will work without QT Pro. Press command+J to bring up the Movie Properties window, or go to Movie>Get Movie Properties.

3) In the "Movie" popup menu, select "Sprite 1", and in the "Annotations" popup menu, select "Properties 2".

4) Where it says "Idle Frequency" click the Set button beside it, and select "Don't send idle messages". Click OK, close the properties and save.

You should now be able to move the iMac around freely, and make its head bob Luxo Jr. style whenever you please until the one you ordered actually arrives

Totally agree. The auto-rotation is annoying and completely defeats the interactive exploring nature of QuickTime VR Objects.

Your way is good, but you can also simply disable the Sprite track by first changing the Controller to "Movie Controller", then going to (Edit menu) "Enable Tracks..." Click 'Sprite Track' to toggle if off then change the Controller back to "QTVR Movie Controller".

That's it.

You can have whole minutes of fun making Luxo iMac get down and bebop!

PS Can't wait to see John Lasseter's commercial...
