Hi, I wanted to get a Compact Flash adapter for the slot in my Pismo. I'm running OS 10.2.1 (without classic) and was just wondering if most adapters would work ok. I went to buy.com and they had a macally adapter and an 'edge memory' one. Will these work and does anyone have any experience with them?

Thanks,

Pete Carter

They all will work.

Compact Flash is wired only slightly differently from PCMCIA, so the adapter just moves the pin connections around to make the CF card connect properly.

It's not like a USB card reader where you have to have the right driver, or hope Apple wrote one and included it.
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

Why don't you just try it and see? They cost something like $10.

I figure most would work OK since these are not terribly complex. The real circuitry is pretty much all contained within the CF card itself.

Anyways, my cheapie Kodak one works fine in a PC laptop. Haven't had a chance to try it in a Mac laptop yet, since my TiBook hasn't yet arrived.

EDIT: vmarks beat me to it.

Thanks. I thought they'd work but just checking. I didn't wanna just try and see because although its US$10, prices suck in NZ where I live...especially for students who don't wanna waste anything . Hehe...I'll grab one in the US when I travel there on Friday though.

Cheers,
