Would you prefer if the forums clock was set to EST? MacNN.com is EST, as are most Internet sites. I was going to change it -- I have no idea why it's GMT -- but I thought it would be good to hear what you all have to say.

I am sure everyone in EST would like it in EST and everyone out of it will not.
Personally EST sounds good

why don't you get a pm out to every user and have them choose their own time zone.

Well, a lot of new users might not know about the options, and of course guest users (most of whom are PST/EST) can't change the options.

The clock display is set according to the member's preference. What difference does it make what time we have the default set to?

In my experience, most EST/PST people can look at time stamps from either zone and convert easily, since we all have to do it often. Thinking in terms of GMT or other time zones is less automatic.

I was thinking maily for guest users (i.e. people checking the forums from computers they are not signed in to). Also many new users may not be aware of the preference in the user CP.

And I think GMT is a good base time, what with it being the baseline time for almost the whole world. Time zones are referred to by their "GMT+/- x hrs" offset. I think it's good how it is.

I think GMT makes more sense to the rest of the world, given we all know our GMT offset, but not necessarily EST.

I know and remember mine because of the forums I visit since every time I go change it to PST it says something like "PST: -8 GMT."
Not that I'm denying that I'm a nerd, you know, just clarifying

Why don't we just use the metric system?
PS I'm in favor of EST.

Well, there are many international users, so please keep GMT.

Florida? Easy, " GMT -50yrs"
And seriously ... GMT -5 (and to make things even more complicated - IIRC, for the remainder of this week it's GMT-4 because you 'muricans haven't switched to daylight savings time yet)

GMT -5 for EST (-4 for DST)
And leave it at GMT. This forum, like the rest of the world, doesn't revolve around the US . . . or Canada.

Personally I would leave it as GMT. However, you do have a point that the MacNN.com frontpage is in EST, and that one or the other probably ought to be changed for consistency. If it comes to that, then I would either change everything to GMT or PST; I suggest PST only because that's the timezone in which Apple is located.
