I haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere, so here is a trick for those looking to place the current iTunes track in an Away Message (since only Mac users can see green dot Status Messages).

If you choose Edit Status Menu... from the away message menu, and add "%Track - %Artist" as an away message, you can select this so that everyone, Mac and PC users alike, can see a consistantly updated message with your current song.

Enjoy!

Well, I wouldn't call it a trick, but it's an obvious new feature.

Alternatively, in Tiger's iChat AV, you can just select "Current iTunes track" from the status menu.

Well, getting iChat to put the song in an Away Message was not obvious to me, as it only offers to put it in a Status Message.

I should have mentioned in the first post that this is a Tiger feature (duh).

So, I guess Apple is just "borrowing" the code/idea from iChatStatus, by David Remahl.

I used to use iChatStatus, but was put off that it constantly polled iTunes for track changes (which meant that it didn't update very often). Fontunatley, iTunes 4.7 supports Distributed Notifications so that other apps can be notified when a track changes, which is the way that Tiger iChat (and a few other iChatStatus knock-offs) work.

Altogether the iChat implementation is by far the simplest to use, and using the trick above works for the green dot Status Messages and red dot Away Messages.

Has anyone figured out how to, if possible, put html links in one's profile?

Too bad it doesn't update when paused. Some people thought I listened to the new russel crowe track 2 days straight

What are you talking about? What profile?
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

Right, AIM profile.

And I don't think you can. A shame, really.

Does this work only with the track name and artist? Is there a way to stick the album name in as well? (Yes, I did attempt with with %album, on a whim.)

This is a great tip--thanks very much for it. Now if I could stick in the tiny musical notes, as in iChatStatus!
