I just got off the phone with Apple and was told my iMac would at earliest ship at the end of this month but most likely early February. The guy told me that the units will start shipping before the end of January, but won't be in large quantities until mid february.
I just hope mine is one of those shipping in January....

Me too. BTW, the Apple store has been updated to now say:
"New orders shipping in 3-5 weeks"
Mine can't get here soon enough, dangit.

How about the low-level iMacs (for $1299)? Has anyone heard if their ship date has been pushed back? Doesn't the delivery of your order depend on when you put the order in? First come, first serve?

I talked to an apple rep today and she told me mine would ship in probably 2 weeks (I ordered the day of the announcement). They will ship some in January, but not a lot. February is when production should be fully ramped up.

I forgot to mention, but lately, apple has actually beat their ship dates by a few days, hopefully they are just being conservative.

I dont' think Apple has ever stayed with the "first order, first shipped" ideaology. I wish they would, but in my experience, it hasn't been the case.
And, if you look at it from Steve and Apple's perspective... If somone in shipping told you that your company could start shipping your product on January 28th wouldn't you tell everyone that the new product will ship at the end of January? I would. It makes you look better. I know the down side, but people have to understand that there's no way that Apple could ship everyone's new iMac before Jan. runs out!

I'm wondering when the Apple Stores will start having them. If they come before the Apple Store people... you are going to have some PISSED individuals.

I reserved my new iMac the day after its announcement at the local Apple Store (Palisades Center, West Nyack NY). I call periodically to make sure the arrival date is still the same, and as of today it was still mid-next week, "the week of the 21st," to quote the helpful employee there, so I have to imagine that's when all Apple Stores will get them. Apple wants to make more money off of these stores so it's no surprise to me that they'll have them before they'd get shipped home, so people who figure that out will be inclined to go buy them at their local Apple Stores. I can't wait though..as soon as they call me, I'm in my car and headed to the Palisades!
