I doubt there is room for a different socket and it would ony increase production cost. If the socket is replaced by a different when with 'G5'(sic) arrives, so be it.

However, I really doubt there would be two sockets at once.

Apple has sent out so many of those letters, anybody can cut and paste one on to a web page.

That case design is FAKE!

And I do believe those pictures are legit. And I think come Aug 13th, theres going to be a lot of really quiet people who previously were so quick to say it was fake.

Uh, dude... The Thinksecret site says the pics have been removed at Apple's request. Of course, that may or may not be true.

The C&D letters flying around to sites like confetti, WERE NOT fake.

It looks like the cases are the real dead.

I can't say that I'm overly impressed with the look of the new case (if it is accurate), but then again sometimes its really hard to tell how machines look until you see them IRL. Dunno, I still quite like the Quicksilver case. But anyway, the important part is whats inside isn't it?

More seriously, I know what you mean about the quicksilver...it is a really nice case, I'll be sorry to see it go..

However, the cooling/fan noise is just a joke...I had to sell my DP800 because of the fans on that thing! My hoover is quiter...If they could get the cooling sorted, be it with vents or some other clever design, the case would be IMHO very hard to beat functionality wise...

Just because something has been around for a while doesn't mean it should be replaced...if it works, go with it...

Peace,

Marc

When the the new iMac was announced I was distinctly unimpressed, but I liked it much better after seeing it for real. My Quicksilver 867 is the second-nicest looking Mac I've ever owned (just pipped by my Lombard, which sadly was recently nicked )

Here's hoping for at least ~1.4 Ghz and 166 FSB (dual?) Apple needs something fast at the top end!

Legal or not, true or false it's a one ugly design! I believe if Apple were to introduce a new case they would make it "new" and not try to f*** up the old one. Metal! Turbo! Camaro! Firebird! Come on, judging by the iPod and iBook, Apple would never produce this next. Maybe it's an outtake but probably a fake!

Guess it's time to join the foray...

My bet is they're real and ready to ship. Too many old boxes still in the pipeline.

I got a call from an "insider" at the Moto fab in Austin in May.
He said they were pumping out 1.4-1.6 GHz G4's like Cheerios.
He also said to expect at least a 100% performance boost over existing PM's. I'm hoping for Quads...
I've known him for over 40 years, so I expect it's true.

This case looks good to me, and I still think the Quicksilver case looks like it was hacked in somebody's garage.

Guess I let my admiration for MacNN member Cheerios out -

Mot is still running on a .18u process, won't be migrating to .13 till next year sometime.

With a new iBook and Harley added to my toybox recently, I'm gonna have to nurse my Duallie till MWSF or possibly MWNY next year. I still hope the PMacs get a serious boost soon.

I've gotta say though, after playing on the "bleeding edge" with an OC'd G3-PM8500 and then the Duallie that I promptly OC'd, I'm still happy with the performance of my almost 2 year old Mac(dual 7400's w/ 4 stage pipes). Makes me wonder at the efficacy of the added pipeline stages in the "newer, faster" G4's.

I am not a lawyer, but in my opinion, Apple can ask people to remove stuff, but
they are unlikely to be able to enforce their "inernal policies" with third parties.

>Pursuant to Apple internal policies, this type of Material is not permitted to be disclosed or published
> to any unauthorized persons.

Apples internal policy doesn't apply to people other than Apple employees or contractors who
are bound to those policies by contract.

> By continuing to publish, display, or link to the Material, you and your company may be disclosing
> Apple confidential business information and/or Apple trade secrets and also may be held liable
> for infringing Apple's rights under various federal and state laws.

People who haven't signed non-disclosure agreements or are otherwise contractually
bound not to reveal information can do as they please. That is, perhaps, except if
you act in conspiracy to commit a crime (as opposed to a violation of Apples
internal policies) with someone who has signed such documents. In any event,
just what "federal and state laws" are these? Do they apply to people in France?
Not likely!

> Therefore, we request that you cease and desist from displaying the Material on all web sites and
> servers under your control, including any hyperlinks to other locations where the Material may
> be available.

Note that they are asking, not demanding. Do you think they would ask if their letter
were not much more than a bluff? Also note that they want hyperlinks removed as
well - quite fishy. Is someone commiting a crime (as opposed to some non-applicable
internal policy) by pointing out someone else who might be?

> Because this is a matter we take very seriously, we ask that you immediately confirm in
> writing that you have removed the Material from your web site.

Speaking of "confirming in writing," Their email has little or no authority, as we all know
how easy it is to forge an email. They would do better to "confirm in writing" themselves,
as they themselves request.

Cheers!

DUHDUHDUH.

It's the same mobo that was on e-bay months ago, and the date on it is early '01. (April?). Might have been in testing since then though.

The Red board must be an early prototype of whatever will ship in a few weeks. For one, there is the proprietary mini-vga, of the same type that grace the iMac G4, the iBook, and the eMac, port between the Firewire ports and the Ethernet port.... also missing is the modem, the miniplug sound out, etc...

Another observation of this motherboard and the picture with the case open....
Am I the only one to notice that this thing has 3 ATA connectors? Two on the upper right, and one again further down that's at an angle.

My quicksilver has 2... one that connects to the 1 or 2 hard drives i can have sitting at the bottom of the case, and another that wraps around and hooks up to the disc drive and zip drive...

Speculate: RAID built into the motherboard, perhaps?

Well, apple sources have been saying the quad handles have been dropped on the new powermac, and i think a complete redesign is inorder since this current model has only gone through few cosmetic and color changes. Lets all hope for the brush allumiun or titanium and bring apple ahead of the others with style and OS. Any other mock shots taken?

The Handles on all the Macs were such a good idea. Has any of you tried to carry a new eMac? They're a pain in the..... I felt like I was going to drop it. I absolutly love the fact that my G4 has handles, and that I don't drop it.

I love my handles. I don't need them on the bottom though unless I move to a zero-gravity environment and the last time I checked, my gravity payment was cashed.

Does this case and mobo design account for quad-processors?
