I have a slew of FW800 drives doing backup and general mirroring (manual, not RAID) of data. I would really like to get out of my MBP 13" and into the new MacBook Air. To add to the confusion, I have an older (heck it was state-of-art last year) mini-DVI 23" (or was it 24") or whatever that connector is— you know, the one before this new Thunderbolt Display.

So, if there was an adapter to FW, I would not be able to connect my display? It would be a conundrum, yes? Would I have to sell my monitor and get a new display?

Recommendations, please. Thanks.

Sell the display, get a new thunderbolt display which has Ethernet, USB and FW800 ports on the back. it's like a port hub, but with a screen attached .

Or could you re-case the drives into USB or thunderbolt enclosures (if they exist yet)?

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

If you don't want to buy the display, it looks like Sonnet's coming out with a FW800 adapter sometime in the future:

Alternatively, if you're willing to wait a while, it's likely that some other third parties will come out with more USB/FW/Ethernet docks similar to what's on the back of the new display.

Huh.

Always a PITA, this damn technology.

Sounds like the best option would be to get a new display and avoid the well-I-have-one-adapter-how-do-I-hook-up-the-monitor problem.

Or wait for a Thunderbolt hub.
