Hi

Does anyone have any inside news on when the *much* anticipated IBM Travelstar 48GB hard drive will be sold? According to their press release, it's in the 2nd quarter of 2001, isn't that *now*?

Yes, I'm being impatient 'cos I'm holding out on upgrading until this drive comes out.

Thanks
Yuhui

Will it fit into a PowerBook G4?

Yes, the PowerBook G4 (like the G3) can accomodate drives up to 12.7mm in height. This drive is 12.5mm, I believe.

It won't fit in either iBook, however.

Is this IBM Travelstar 48GB the new "soundless" (silent) portable drive?
That's what I'm waiting for (my Pismo's internal 20GB Toshiba drive is driving me nuts (constant "whine").

Well, Compaq's Presario 1800 does have the 48gb option available now, so that means IBM has started shipping them to OEM's. Shouldn't be too much longer before they start showing up for individual sale.

(See here http://athome.compaq.com/store/defau...26FamilyId=654 for proof)
