My documents folder has almost 5 GB of documents. I need to organize the documents. It would help a great deal if I could see a comprehensive, sortable list of all the files in the Finder or other window. There are endless subfolders within subfolders within subfolders, so I can't just open and sort the main folder.
Are there any apps that do this?

"All My Files" began with Lion. I'm on Snow Leopard. I can't upgrade because then I lose Rosetta, which gives me access to all my old files.
In fact, part of why I need to sort the files is so I can convert any that require Rosetta, so I can move up to Yosemite.

What did people use to organize their files prior to "All My Files" in 10.7 ?

That looks like it just might do the trick! I will give it try.
Many thanks for the tip!

If you want to see all the files in a list form then you can use Stellar Smart Finder. This tool shows you all the files in graphical form. Additionally you can see your files in list form and in Sun Burst chart. Moreover, it can detect duplicate files too. Alternative Smart Path Finder for Mac OS X
