$1.60 US/gal for 87 octane.

Flint, MI

It's usually $0.05 more in my hometown of Durand. But I drive through Flint everyday, so I stop there and fill up when I have to.

I have a horrible gas problem:

In 9th grade, the teacher asked me to move to the back of the class because of my gas problem. Nowadays, people are always moving away from me and accusing me of "passing gas," even when I did nothing. People use me as a scapegoat because of my history. I admit when I do it, but I get very upset when accused, because I would hope that my reputation as being truthful would make them believe that I was not the one to "pass the gas."

I didn't realise that so many Americans had cars that run on gas and not petrol.

Yes - I know 'gas' is short for gasoline but gas is a word that means a product in gaseous form (not liquid) and (IMO) using gas to mean liquid petrol is just plain stupid.

$0.98AUD/litre for high octane unleaded petrol in the east of Sydney.

I for one believe that 1 per Litre can't be too far off in the UK (may be 2 years 3 MAX). with the average being around 78/80 p/.l at the moment the step to 1 or at least an intermediate of the 99p false average lasting for a long time, the step from p to pricing being a large psychological step.

Does anyone else form the Uk agree with me?

You're probably right. It only takes a little more taxation from the hypocritical Government (ministerial Jaguars, but we should take the bus...) to push things up towards 90 rather than 80, then it is that magic "100".

Some of the newspapers talk about the 4 gallon (Imperial gallon, not US) being the limit, but I think the majority of people don't do that calculation in their heads.
It'll be when the service stations have to change their signage en masse that we'll really take notice and move to the US, seeing our petrol prices fall by 75%.

Just imagine: if I moved to the US it would be just like my Accord getting 100mpg immediately. No wonder Americans don't care about driving so much - it's actually cheaper for me to fly from London to Leeds than to drive (and certainly cheaper than the train).

A sorry state of affairs, and one that will only get worse.

With the taxing strategy at the moment, I'd put those prices about 24months away... Thats of course if there is any petrol in the pumps given that the Tankers will probably blockade everything again (wasn't that fun?).. Guess I ought to go fill up now...

Thing is, public transport is a joke and not a very funny one at that. So what do we do? It means we basically have to live within close proximity of work/social areas, i.e. a city. Fair enough but have you seen the prices?

Off topic rant aside, I wonder if a substantial hike in petrol prices will come if/when we join the Euro seeing as, unless I'm mistaken, this is the case in most 'Euro' countries?

Just my 76.5 pence...

Mmmm... perhaps it would be a good idea to go and fill up a dozen Jerry cans...

Wouldn't it be nice if the Gov't decided not to tax people on unavoidable "luxuries" like decent transport, inheritance, and alcohol? After all, buses are 60 times or so as polluting as cars (and how often are they empty?) - makes more sense to rent out Smarts.
We need an autonomic government system now! Skynet please. All these inefficient people...

Why can't we just copy an european transport system??? I'm no expert but the trains I went on in France were great... I've heard that Swiss trains are v.punctual but slow... I agree with taxing environmental pollution, but only when the people have a choice! It also takes the piss when diesel is as expensive as petrol (if not morei nsome cases) yet with the new generation of engines, they are often less polluting!!

Sorry about the non-stop rants, must be something I ate... No, my mistake, it's my reaction to being screwed at every oppotunity by a supposed left-wing government. But I realise politics doesn't belong here so I'll STFU!

I'd like to see the numbers on that, please, as I believe you're off by a factor 10 or so.

In addition, where do you think all those people who should be riding the bus are?

Sitting one-to-a-car, creating the traffic jam that surrounds it, perhaps?
