Hi all,

I recently upgraded my G3 Bondi Blue iMac to 288mb of RAM and now it's much much faster and I can use it more now. However, finding software has proven difficult. Could someone please recommend me software for the following:

- Email Client: I use Outlook Express but i was wondering if there's anything better.
- Browser: I use Mozilla, but again, wondering if anything better.
- AIM Client: I use regular AIM, but would like something better.
- And just general cool stuff and programs for 8.6.

Thanks for any help.

See if you can still find a compatible version of Eudora.

Check your iMac's date/time, if it is not right iCab could give you such message. Happened to me with a Power Mac that had its battery dead.

The best place to get old Mac software is (was) the Info-Mac Archive. It's at http://www.info-mac.org/ . Enjoy it while it lasts, because it's being retired and will probably disappear from the Net pretty soon.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

That said, Outlook Express 5 is a great email client (just watch to make sure the database never exceeds 2GB!!!!), and Mozilla is a good browser. AIM for OS 9 is also competent (and there is no viable alternative on Classic Mac OS).

Don't tell me they used a signed long for the file size.

I've had a customer who lost her ENTIRE business e-mail database because of the 2GB limitation in Outlook.

Horrifyingly stupid programming.

Thanks for the link.

Does OS 8.6 come with screen savers? If not, what's a good free one? I looked at that site but it didn't have anything for this category.

I have no idea what the cause is, but once an OE/Entourage 2001 database reaches 2GB, it becomes catastrophically corrupted.

Holding down command-option when starting OE will bring up maintenance options which allow the database to be cleaned out. Usually, most of the DB size is junk that it can remove.
