How do you clean the speaker holes?

While wiping my Powerbook clean earlier today, I noticed that some of the speaker holes have gunk in them. Is there a recommended way to clean out these holes? I've considered using a pin/needle but I'm scared I might scratch something.

Silly putty -- no joke!
Just press it in a little bit (make sure it's not too soft) and the gunk will stick to it when you pull it off.

I read this and looked around for silly putty, and I can't find it anywhere. Just one of those things that disappears when you actually need it.

Hm, I think it's still widely available in toy stores.
If not, go to an art supply store and buy a "kneaded eraser" -- it'll work about as well.
