I'm looking for an application that converts files into WMV format. Mainly this is because my xbox 360 only reads WMV and I want to play some movies on there!

I've been looking around but can't really find anything...can someone help me?

If you have a Windows machine handy, Windows Media Encoder Studio is free - Windows Media Encoder

Correction!
It appears that VLC for the moment only Decodes WMV, it doesn't Encode.

Sorry about that.

I always advise people to pony-up the $29.99 for QuickTime Pro. It's such a handy tool for format conversion and will let you convert between most common video types. With the free Flip4Mac plug-in, you will then have wmv export options within QT. So ... yes, it'll still cost you a bit but its less than the Flip4Mac studio which costs $49 AND you get all the other formats that QT supports. Best $30 you'll spend besides Graphic Converter.

Correct, they're using FFMPEG's implemenation of the WMV9 codec, which only supports decoding.

I guess that would make it a 'dec' rather than a 'codec'.
