The FBI's Cyberbranch logo is so ridiculously bad, it's just... well, it's funny. My only guess is maybe they held a contest for elementary school students, and this was the one they picked.

Ministry of the Economy, Competitiveness, and Shipping. Ok.
Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs. So much for separation of church and state. (Wait. There is none in Greece).
Ministry of Health and Social Solidarity. Um, What does "Social Solidarity" have to do with health?

and my all-time favorite Greek Government department name, simply because it sounds so silly to me:

Minister for Rural Development and Food.

Look, the world doesn't submit to US norms, believe or not there are quite a few countries in Europe that have no seperation between church and state. It's not like it's 'the best system' or a natural law to seperate church and state (though I do approve of it, in general). I've seen it work quite well in many countries - it's really just abused in states like Iran or Saudi-Arabia. But then, that is to be expected.

Yes. This one puzzled me to no end the first time I saw it. I checked and re-checked five times, ’cause I was certain I must have mistranslated it or something. But I couldn’t make κοινωνική αλληλεγγύη mean anything else, so I accepted defeat and carried on, convinced that the Greek are in fact utterly batshit insane.

A general stance that has worked quite well since then.

I must say that adopting the stance that EVERYBODY YOU MEET is utterly batshit insane until proven to be otherwise has been rather useful in day-to-day life.

Most Texas state organizations use a logo based in one way or another on our relatively distinctive flag, or featuring the shape of the state. Here's one that's a little different:


I've yet to see a government logo (city or state) around here that was too wacky. Maybe over-the-top logos come with being less than conservative, which is certainly something you can't charge most parts of the state with being...

Yes, my father, who was born and raised in Greece, will be the first to admit that the Greek are batshit insane.

The only other thing I could suggest would be to look up αλληενγύη in a Greek Dictionary (i.e. one that defines Greek words in terms of other Greek words, as opposed to a translation dictionary) and see if the definition matches up as well.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic here.

Either way, I actually like the concept, but the color choices are pretty ghastly, and the "D" seems improperly sized compared to the other letters.

Edit: the Illinois one isn't bad technically, but there's a bit of WTF is that supposed to be? Chainmail?

A bit, yes. You can see the "express movement with the logo elements" part of the design quite easily, but the secondary impression is indeed "automatic pistol," without a doubt.
