I just got 10.3 But prior to installation Id like to know if anyone knows if Toast 5.2 works under 10.3
I have no real need to get Toast 6, and hope that I can get by in 10.3, but will set up another partition for Toast 5 in 10.2.8 if need bee
thanks

You don't need to set-up a separate partition for Toast 5.2 to work with Panther. I have Toast 5.2.1 on Panther and burned a few CDs and DVDs today without a glitch. Systems seems pretty stable now.

I've burned VCDs without a problem. Are you getting an error?

No it just hangs about 1/5th of the way through.
I'll play around with it some more though.

Toast 5.1.3 doesn't work with Panther for me...it just doesn't load. The dock icon bounces a few times, then loading stops. How annoying.

People with apps failing to load after bouncing briefly...
Are they in your Home directory? I had that with one or two. Moved them out and they worked fine.
Probably not relevant as most people are sensible enough to put apps in Applications but just in case...

Is that a typo? Cuz 5.2.1 works.
Update to 5.2 is free.

I didn't move Toast after upgrading to Panther. It is and has always been in my Applications folder. It simply will not load anymore.

I have the same problem - 5.1.3 just bounces then quits. Do I need to upgrade that as well then? Drat! Also, when you burn and copy things to DVD in the finder, does it burn it automatically when you copy it across or do you have to burn it afterwards? Its just I've only ever really used Toast!

So 5.1.2 didn't work for me and it may be b/c it wasn't in The applications folder. I installed Panther on my second hard drive and noticed that all those fancy icons for apps music movies don't show up on the non boot drive. I copied the app over to my new applications folder got the installer for 5.2.1 fought with it to accept my serial number and now all is well (haven't really tried burning stuff but the app opens and recognizes the superdrive and cdrw).
Aside: When burning from finder I am pretty sure that it goes like this.
1) insert disk
2) finder formats it and wastes ~15mb
3) copy files to it you will see the normal copy dialogue box
4) drag disk to 'trash' whose icon will change to a burn icon
someone correct me if I'm wrong or missed something.

Yep, that's it.
Except that in Panther, you can just click the little "Eject" icon next to the disk.
You can also add a "Burn" icon to the toolbar.
I prefer Toast b/c I don't need to wait for the copying, and I don't need the extra space (entire contents to be burned) free on my hard drive. When you're burning DVDs, that gets pretty annoying - having to keep 4.4 gigs PLUS an extra gig for system usage free isn't always easy or possible, especially when you're burning stuff to *free up* space in the first place.
Duh.

The upgrade to 5.2 is free at roxio.com, I just installed it and Toast works again. Yay.

Toast 5.2 worked well on my ibook running panther. The only wierd thing I noticed was that you can only burn 1 session CDs, even when you click "burn session" instead of "burn disc". Anyone else notice this?
