Like everyone else, I have a blog. Pretentiously enough, I write about literature and art—book reviews, careful lucubrations on famous paintings, exegeses of poetry, that kind of thing.

Someone suggested simply, Fine Art, but despite the apt double meaning (subject and estimation) I feel it is just too pretentious, even for me. I considered The Ivory Tower for a second or two, but that's a little self-deprecating. I would like my blog title to be a play on words, striking just the right balance between the highfalutin and the pedestrian.

I know a lot of you are in graphic design and advertising; perhaps you even write copy.

Your suggestions will be definitely appreciated, probably weighed, and possibly immortalized in the little corner of the Internet that I call my own.

With your screen-name I am surprised your blog title did not come to you in a dream, or a vision perhaps.

Here are my suggestions. (Consider these are from a guy whose own blog is called "Froth, Spittle, and Bluster".) I am guessing they will be too over-the-top, too deliberately attention-grabbing for you. But what the heck.

--Meretricious Musings (because I like alliteration)
--The Birth of Venus (after the painting by Botticelli and a nice "hook" to get your reader's, or readers', attention)
--Words and Images (addressing both subject and method to discuss subject)
--Palimpsest (suggesting the multi-layered analysis you would bring to your blog postings on art)
--Old Masters and Young Turks (just because I like the way it sounds and I think it would address, at least partly, your intended subject)
One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

Hm. It's really more about books and literature than the visual arts. I kinda want the title to reflect that.

Can I ask a genuine question here Tire?

What do you get out of running such a blog? Is it because you like writing? Is it because it's a form of collecting your own thoughts about whatever it is you're writing about?

I don't know. Why does anyone have a blog? I guess my reasons are, in descending order of importance: To express myself. To have an online presence. To practice my HTML skills. Because once to my amazement somebody actually left a comment.

What does it mean to have an online presence? I hear this from time to time for people who have a blog but really what does this mean?

So you hand code your blogs? That's really the only way you that I know of to get into html for your blog.

Don't get me wrong, I have one and I'm not knocking it. I have it because It provides an avenue to do Bible studies and dig deeper into the Bible.

Hmmm. Ok.

See, 'coz I have no urge whatsoever to get a blog I don't understand these things at all. Cheers for the answer - it's a bit of insight for me.
