Have a friend with a beige G3, running 9.2.2. Some time in the past, someone hit Apple-E and ejected a floppy without dragging it to the trash. Now, whenever the machine starts up, it asks for the floppy, and it has to be cancelled.

I have tried rebuilding the desktop, but I can't get this window to disappear. Anyone remember how to make this thing go away?

In 9.2.2, the image didn't "ghost" on eject by default.

You can cancel the dialog by repeatedly pressing command-. , but that shouldn't be necessary.

Check that there isn't something in the Servers folder or Startup Items folder looking for the disk...

Tried it - nothing in the folders. Anything else you can think of?

Try emptying the contents of the various Recent Items folders, perhaps there is an alias to a file in one of those floppies that is getting scanned on startup.

Also, rebuild the desktop file. And if that doesn't work, and you're not using File Sharing (or are willing to set up your shares again), delete the invisible AppleShare PDS file that resides at the root level of the startup disk.
