News Release
Laptops on sale for $50 each
A unique opportunity is available from Henrico County Public Schools. Used Apple iBook laptop computers will be on sale for $50 each, with a one-per-person limit. The one-day sale will be held Tuesday, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
One thousand laptops will be sold at the school warehouse — 361 Dabbs House Road beside the Eastern Government Center — on a first-come, first-serve basis, with no waiting list. Only cash or checks will be accepted.
The white, Power PC 750s with 12-inch screens have 320 megabytes of memory and are installed with the AppleWorks Operating System.
From Interstate 64, take exit 193B. Travel east on Nine Mile Road and turn left at the second stoplight on Dabbs House Road. The warehouse is on the right.
For more information contact Mychael Dickerson, director of media relations and safety for Henrico County Public Schools, at [email protected] or 804-652-3724.
Want to do a good deed? (I also posted this in Marketplace)
I'd love it if someone could (who lived in Virginia) wanted to take advantage of this and have an extra person buy one of these by proxie for me, or heck even buy one and I'll give them $100.00 for it. My nephew could use a computer for school and long story short, they are poor, so I was waiting for news on this opportunity. They just posted this... I can't get out there.
Anyone?

My husband tells me his brother who works for Henrico County schools won't be on vacation that week. I'll ask him for you.

Shoot, I will be on vacation, and I know someone who REALLY needs a new ibook because her computer was stolen (along with a lot of other stuff in her house).
If anyone would be willing to pick one up for her, it'd be wonderful.
What's the Appleworks operating system?

I am going to try to get up there for my sister-in-law, but if someone is closer-by and wants to make some cash let me know...

I'd go, but there'll probably be 9000 people there by 6am waiting in line.

Hmmm... 2 hours away from me... wonder if it is worth it? I may do it just for the screen... and take my GF with me.

Seriously, I'll give someone $100 if they get me one. I'll pay shipping and all that jazz.
Edit: Make that a $100 a piece. I could actually use two—one for me and a friend of mine. That would be sweet. You know, just on the chance that someone might be able to go and pick a few up with their friends. I'll definitely pay for 'em. PM me like whoa!

Hmm I wonder how far that is from me as well...
I'd be willing to drive a few hours for it.

It's about a 3 hour drive for me, not a big deal, but I'd hate to get there only to find a line of people wrapped around the building and having to leave empty handed.

That's what I'm thinking... They should have made it $200. That's where I would have drawn the line.

My Brother in-law wrote and said
sorry. I am not allowed to puchase through this because of my job position.
So i'm back to wondering who I can get to stand in line for me.

I'm guessing many of the kids will be in line for them as well.

How about us locals get a caravan together and meet up? Not to dampen spirits, but if I make the trek, I'm going for self.

The sale is only open to Henrico residents. Luckily I had the wonderful experience of using it for 2 years in the system here.
I'll try to get one. For myself.
Should be a nice note-taker at school.
