I was wondering if all the bombing over the last 6 months contributed to the recent earthquakes? It seems odd that they have had 3 very large quakes in the last 29 days. Does the bombing have any effect on the tectonic plates?

Any experts out there?

doesnt appear to be the case according to that link. although I wonder what happens to stresses on tectonic plates when you send cruise missiles into mountain caves! I would imagine you could actually affect a few things with respect to the geology...i dunno just thinking aloud...

Where are the Mac usin' forum postin' geologists? Anyway, I doubt bombing on Afghanistan could cause seismic activity. Those tectonic plates can take a lot of punishment.

Besides, this is a seismicly active area. Earthquakes are not uncommon in that area of the world. Like on the US west coast, bit more frequent. This is close to the Himalaya area, where massive plate friction occurs. Massive enough to create the largest mountains on this planet.

I am no expert, though - This is just bits and pieces I seem to recall from high-school geology.

Now, if we would discuss how the US bombings on Afghanistan affect local wildlife and ecology...

... then I'm game!

Call me an ignorant sob, but those pictures of Afganistan give one the idea that there was no native ecology and wildlife. And if there was, there sure ain't any now.
