You should be able to connect to any wireless network using any standard encryption.
What do you mean by 2wire?

This is a networking question btw and has nothing to do with the macbook.

So the brand of the wireles router is 2wire? Or is that your ISP (internet service provider)?

As SSharon mentioned, your MacBook should work on most standard wireless routers.

Good luck,

Does the network show up under the Airport menu on the right-hand end of the menu bar?

What happens when you try to connect to it?

2wire is a wireless gateway rented to SBC/AT&T DSL customers. It's their way of keeping many customers from buying their own wireless routers, which are unsupported by SBC.

At any rate, if you can't get on the network just by selecting from the AirPort menu, I'd call SBC's tech support. The fee you paid for that wireless gateway includes SBC phone support, so that's the first route I'd go if I were you...

Wake, you'll have to tell us what happens when you try to connect. Do it ask for a password? What?

I bet you're not entering the WEP key correctly. Most likely, the base station wants a hexadecimal key, which you must begin with a "$". See this Apple support document for help:

AirPort Express: Difficulty joining third-party network that is using WEP
