The Macintosh has it's 20th Anniversary on 24 January and i have been wondering what Steve might have planned for the big day. As MWSF was a pretty lack-lustre affair it makes sense that the big announcements would be saved for this day.

I predict that we will see the release of a few new and updated products possible including some or all of the following:

iBox - to connect my Mac to the home stereo, the digital hub
G5 Powerbooks - now that a 1U high XServe is available, why not?
G5 Desktops - faster processors across the board
iMac - with G5 processors - the 20th Anniversary Macintosh

anybody with any other thoughts or predictions??

-G5 updates sometime late Jan/Early Feb.
-G5 PB in late summer. Not before then.
-I'm guessing some kind of special product-I'm going to guess an all-metal iMac or something like that. Maybe a G5 in there.
-iBox is a cool idea, but sounds to me like something that would get left to third parties. It would be cool if Apple made one though. Streaming video to teh TV would be cool, but I really doubt it will happen.
-Is it time for a PB upgrade yet? I haven't been keeping track.

But it'll have to happen on Friday.

I'll second the special iMac as a "20th Anniversary Mac" prediction. Mostly because this (or something like it) is what I've been waiting for to upgrade my current Mac. I actually want a Cube revisited, but a special edition iMac would fit the bill.

Apple has to do something for the anniversary year other than the updated "1984" commercial!

Hmmm. MacOS (I can't believe any of their)Rumors reports G6 imacs. Also some G6 and G6 Extreme nonsense.

The 2004 20th Anniversary Macintosh will be a big black desktop machine with a built in 800x600 LCD display sporting a CD-ROM drive, an overrated subwoofer/speaker system and a slow processor. It will cost $10,000.

Oh wait. That was 1997.

Hmm, let's see. Many Apple products are released on Saturday's (including Mac OS X). There is nothing wrong with the date.

with the whole "Anniversary" thing i think it may be possible to use that as a pre-tense to offer a new product for a "limited time"

so if it's successful Jobs can say, "we'll offer it permanently because you want it"

but if it sucks and bombs _Jobs can say, "it was to celebrate our anniversary and a look into the future, if you don't like it good because we'll stop making it anyway"

i think this may be possible. like product testing without criticsim. the only thing they would have to do is make sure the product is sound in it's concept and it'll work out no matter what (if it sucks, they can stop R&D on it because they know it sucks)

Why not?

Do you really want a laptop with dual blowers?

A 20th Anniversay Mac just is not Steve's style. There is a chance that we'll see a Powerbook G5 but I would think that it would be pretty tight under the hood for the heat sink.

Just introduce a new dual Powermac with more internal expansion for 2K along with a 1K cinema display.

Jan 20th.

Updated displays and Power Macs.

Just speculation, of course.

That would be a great idea. From expereience, the less 3rd party products the better. I just happen to think that Steve is working toward the Mac being the center of our life, which would also be the entertainment center.
